Biography of Faile

Faile is a collective founded in 1999 by Patrick McNeil (born in 1975 in Edmonton, Alberta), Patrick Mille (born in 1976 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) and Aiko Nakagawa, who left the group in late 2006. The name Faile is an anagram of their first project, entitled “A life”. As they studied in an art and design school, they learnt the many techniques related to painting and printing. Silk-screen printing and stencil remain the basis of their works, where different worlds collide : retro, fifties/seventies pulp, pop art; they also combine a clever mix of typhographies. Faile admit they were influenced by Robert Rauschenberg, Stanley Kubrick, Andy Warhol, Cy Twombly, and Lichtenstein…
In 2010, their Deluxx Fluxx exhibition, in collaboration with BAST, was a success. They created an arcade game world with revisited consoles. That same year, another exhibition was held in Lisbon as part of the Portugal Arte 10 Festival. They built an emblematic temple made of marble, ceramic and metal. They also made a lot of frescoes, including one in New York, in September 2013. The universe and the skills of this pair are widely recognized on the international scene of urban art.
