We took the opportunity to ask Ella & Pitr a few questions. • What are the drawings about ? • How did you select the drawings from your sketch books ? • What part do sketch books play in your life ? • Why did you want to share those intimate moments ?
The drawings are about life; about how fast it passes by. We draw about life in order to go back to the past, in case we forgot something.
It was based on intuition, or rhythm, or even narration; we meant to tell a story which everyone can relate to, the story of our daily lives. More specifically, we scanned and printed almost all our sketches on small stickers which we placed on the workshop floor, and from the top of the ladder, we made a selection. Also, there are pictures that we really wanted to include but unfortunately failed to, in the rhythm of the book. So we had to grieve some of them… we should also do a book with the sketches we turned down.
They are our mark on the school bench. They impose a certain distance with what we experience, since choosing to draw a moment of life also requires choosing a point of view. They also play a remarkable part in our balance, as they allow us also to say things with great derision and tell pathos to go fuck itself.
Don’t be mistaken, we keep the intimate moments for ourselves! We precisely think that people seem to relate well to our drawings. We often leave our notebooks lying on the table, so our friends also follow our adventures by following the chronology of our books when they drop by, which is why we wanted to share them with a wider audience. Laughing is good for your health.
